Hard Work Pays off for Falcons

Donacarney Falcons 3 – 2 Albion Rovers

Donacarney Falcons U11’s got their first win of the season in Saturdays Division 1 match at home to Albion Rovers. Having played well but loosing 3-2 to their club mates ‘Donacarney Eagles’ the previous week, hopes were high facing fellow promoted team Albion Rovers.Donacarney started well with Joey Gaynor shaving the post with a fine shot after a great turn on the edge of the box. The Falcons had more of the ball in the first half although 1 quick break from Albion resulted in a good goal for them which was then followed up by a second goal scored from a free kick after some confusion in the Donacarney penalty area. Donacarney heads never dropped and fought hard to pull 1 back with a typical poacher’s goal from Jack Collins and went in 2-1 down at the break. In the second half Donacarney came out very strong and as a result of some fine defending their goal wasn’t threatened at all. Their hard work paid off when Eoghan Mc Cloughan struck to level the sides at 2 all. The team pushed and pushed and it seemed that a draw was the best they could get until as a result of some strong running from Conor Clifford the ball squirted free to Shane Kelly who struck it home to seal the win in what was the last kick of the game. Congratulations must to go to the whole team for their huge effort and skill on the day.Shaun Ennis, Dane McDonnell, Andrew Connolly, Finn Scallon, Joe Lawlor, Darragh Walsh, Shane Kelly, Conor Clifford, Eoghan McCloughan, Jack Collins, Joey Gaynor, Cian Towey
